El encaje roto is a tale written by Emilia Pardo Bazán on 1897, about the unsettling decision of Micaelita, a high society lady, to call off her wedding on the altar apparently without any reason. To me is a mystery story about female intuition, society control and freedom.
The project was to make 2 full page illustrations and 1 half page to open the tale. I used the spider as a symbol of female intuition to represent Micaelita running away of her wedding and able to see through the lies of her fiancé. The cold tone for the wedding, a warm one once she's living her life free years later and can look back to the past and see that she made the right call.
